FOR MEETING PLANNERS
UTILIZING
YOUR SPEAKER
More tips and tricks for Meeting Planners
- After athletic activities, marathon meetings, cocktail
parties, gourmet dinners, or arriving jet-lagged from another
time zone, audiences are not always ready for a speaker, no
matter what the topic.
- If you have a multi day conference and the audience is at
half-attendance on the departing morning, this may not be the
best place to utilize a speaker.
- Serve dessert at the break instead of with the main meal.
People are less full (translation: sleepy) and it makes for a
festive break instead of the usual coffee again and again.
Also, have coffee breaks/replenishing outside the
meeting room.
- Have your photographer take photos after the
presentation or from the very back of the room. Nothing is
more distracting than having someone take a speaker's photo
while an important point is being made.
- Ask your speaker for programming, format and staging
suggestions.
(Panels, roundtable discussions, emcee, recognition events,
etc.)
INQUIRE ABOUT "VALUE ADDED" PROGRAMS
Speakers can serve in more than one capacity, and are often a
valuable source of outside feedback.
Do you need someone to:
- Moderate a panel
- Emcee a special event or banquet
- Present a special session to thank your customers
- Shop your competition and provide feedback
- Shop your customer service and provide feedback
- Go out into the field or visit key departments
- Submit articles for your newsletter before or after your
program
- Give an executive briefing or facilitate a follow-up
strategy session
